Lately, I’ve found myself feeling a bit uninspired by much of the modern jazz I’ve been coming across. After spending a lot of time revisiting classic jazz in recent videos, I reached a point where I needed to hear something fresh. That’s when I remembered seeing Audrey Powne's name pop up a few times.

With curiosity leading the way, I gave her latest album From the Fire a listen – and I’m so glad I did. Sometimes, you stumble upon the right record at exactly the right time, and this was one of those moments. A stunning blend of jazz, soul, and R&B, From the Fire completely reignited my interest in contemporary jazz fusion.

In this video, I review some of the standout tracks from the album and discuss why Powne’s sound stood out in such a saturated space. This was a project that felt too good not to talk about – especially when so much of the channel recently has leaned into jazz history. If you're on the hunt for something new that blends atmosphere, groove and depth, I highly recommend giving this one a listen.
