Narcissists possess an exaggerated sense of self-importance and believe they are superior to others.
Despite this outward confidence, their self-esteem is often fragile and dependent on external validation. Any criticism or disagreement is perceived as a personal attack, leading to defensiveness and resistance to acknowledging their own flaws.

The difficulty with emotional regulation that occurs in BPD can cause strain in relationships. As in any relationship, setting boundaries is important. BPD can make this difficult because someone who has BPD may find it hard to understand the other person’s point of view.
