Suicide bomber detonates explosives after hearing warning shot

A Shiite Muslim who blew himself up in south Lebanon on Wednesday
(20/3) may have set off the explosives prematurely after Israeli
troops in a nearby convoy got suspicious and fired a warning shot.
The blast in Israel's self-declared security zone in south Lebanon
killed an Israeli army captain and was claimed by the Shiite
Muslim group Hezbollah. Earlier in the day, a bomb exploded on the
roof of a police station in Bint Jbeil inside the buffer zone,
injuring a senior security official with the Israeli-backed South
Lebanon Army (SLSA) and a Lebanese policeman. Israeli Prime
Minister Shimon Peres, visiting injured troops flew to a hospital
in northern Israel and warned that his country would retaliate.
Israel meanwhile stepped up its policy of destroying the homes of
Hamas activists on the West Bank and in east Jerusalem, including
the house allegedly belonging to Mohieddin Sharif in Beit Hanina.
Sharif has been identified by Israeli security as the the new
master bomber for the Islamic Resistance Movement HAMAS. Israeli
cabinet ministers Yossi Sarid (Ecology) and Yair Tzaban
(Absorbtion) went to Gaza on Wednesday for talks on the peace
process with PLO President Yasser Arafat, who reinforced the
Palestinian Authority's determination to continue the peace
"mission". 100 Palestinian women demonstrated their defiance
against the Authority, demonstrating in Nablus and demanding an
end to the detention of suspected Hamas activists.
