Before the SS, there was the SA — Hitler’s brown-shirted stormtroopers.
Born in Germany’s chaos after World War I, they battled communists in the streets, intimidated opponents, and helped turn fear into political power.

By the early 1930s, the SA had millions of members.
Their uniforms brought terror.
Their loyalty brought votes.
Without them, Hitler’s rise might never have happened.

But their power became a threat.
In 1934, during the Night of the Long Knives, Hitler destroyed the SA’s leadership — and replaced them with the SS.

The SA built the dictatorship…
and were erased by it.
