Even with NO EXPERIENCE, these are 4 tips to get you into the mind of a great director, things to think about and consider as you dive into this new field.

[0:35] Your Actors Cannot be Your Friends
*You can use your friends as actors, but during rehearsals, you need to be clear about your position as the director, and their position as the director
*Be clear about your expectations

[2:16] Preparation
*Read through your script repeatedly
*Visualize blocking possibilities
*First Read Through: when the entire cast (and possibly company) meet for the first time, to read through the entire script together
*Insist your actors read through the script repeatedly

[4:38] Establish Boundaries
*Actors shouldn't direct each other, that's the director's job
*Each department should feel secure in their role
*The SM or Director should act as a buffer when company members offer ideas

[8:26] Happy Actors Are Good Actors
*Be kind & positive when giving your notes
*Be sensitive to an actor's response to notes
*Give actors adequate breaks
*Take a break when tired or stressed
