As Article 5 countries implement national HCFC Phase-out Management Plans (HPMPs) under the Montreal Protocol, they are facing growing demands to introduce and implement mechanisms to ensure that a range of refrigerant types are fully supported at the national level in the move towards more climate-friendly refrigerant alternatives. Internationally, there are existing standards and mechanisms that can be nationalized as tools in the HCFC phase-out management processes and supporting sustainable adaptation to longer term non-ODS, energy efficient and more climate friendly alternatives.

In many countries and in particular those operating under Article 5 of the Montreal Protocol, there is the need to establish and implement national mechanisms, systems and or standards to regulate flammable refrigerants used as low GWP alternatives in the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning sectors (RAC).

The purpose of this series of webinars on standards is to identify the current state of available standards in the RAC sector and provide a platform for dialogue on the ways in which barriers to adoption of longer term climate-friendly and energy efficient alternatives can be overcome.
