Individual Development Plan (IDP)
Individual Development Plans are personalised roadmaps that guide a player’s journey to success, focusing on their unique strengths, weaknesses, goals, and aspirations. By embracing IDPs and placing the player at the center of their development, we can unlock the true potential of each individual, both on and off the pitch.

INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN - IDP
All of our Competitive players will develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) with the help of their coach. In the IDP, the player will clearly state his dream goal, his personal development objectives (areas he wants to focus on to improve) and specify when, where and what he will do to improve them. Coaches will meet with every player multiple times throughout the season to discuss and guide the IDP process.

Benefits of Individual Development Plans:

Holistic Growth: IDPs promote well-rounded player development by addressing technical, tactical, physical, psychological, and social aspects of the game. This holistic approach ensures that players become not only skilled players but also responsible, confident individuals.
Goal Setting: IDPs allow players to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. This clarity helps players track their progress, stay motivated, and take ownership of their development.
Adaptability: Through regular assessments and revisions, IDPs adapt to a player’s changing needs and circumstances, ensuring that the development journey remains relevant and effective over time.
Player-Centered Approach: IDPs shift the focus from a one-size-fits-all approach to an individualised strategy. Coaches gain insights into each player’s strengths, areas for improvement, and learning preferences, allowing for tailored training sessions and guidance.
Individual Development Plans are powerful tools that facilitate comprehensive player development and foster a person-centered approach. By incorporating and embracing IDPs, even within time constraints, coaches can guide their players towards reaching their full potential. English Premiership clubs like Manchester United, Southampton and Chelsea serve as prime examples of how IDPs can create a pathway to success for budding talents.

Our aim is to elevate my coaching capabilities. While some might find this resource wholly beneficial to their coaching setting, others could discover specific aspects pertinent, using them to shape their unique coaching approaches. Regardless, if this resource aids you – whether directly or indirectly – in crafting or achieving something, it will have fulfilled its purpose to a considerable extent.

Nurturing holistic player development through collaborative IDP Implementation:

Co-Creation of Pathways: Engage players in co-creating their developmental pathways at the start of the season. Through thoughtful conversations, discover their dreams, aspirations, and areas they wish to excel in.
Shared Goal Setting: Together, set inspiring and achievable goals that ignite the players’ passion. Encourage them to visualise their journey and articulate how they see their own growth unfolding.
Personalised Roadmaps: Craft individualised roadmaps that cater to each player’s unique strengths and areas for enhancement. These IDP’s will be their guideposts, designed with their voices at the forefront.
Two-Way Check-Ins: Arrange regular check-ins as dialogues, not just assessments. These conversations become opportunities for players to reflect, share insights, and suggest adjustments, fostering a sense of ownership.
Highlighting Progress: Celebrate even the smallest victories with enthusiasm. Make players aware of their progress, boosting their confidence and inspiring them to continue striving for excellence.
Reflective Dialogues: Engage players in reflective conversations after matches and training sessions. Invite them to share their insights, challenges, and what they’ve learned, fostering self-awareness.
Dynamic Adaptations: Co-create dynamic IDPs that evolve in sync with the players’ growth journey. Encourage them to propose adjustments as they discover new insights about themselves and the game.
Family Engagement: Extend this collaborative ethos to involve families as allies in the players’ development. Invite them into the dialogue, sharing the exciting strides players are taking.
Season-End Reflections: At the close of the season, convene a gathering to collectively reflect on achievements and lessons learned. Celebrate each player’s contribution to the team’s progress.
Continual Support: Ensure that the spirit of collaboration and empowerment carries forward beyond the season. Empower players to remain active participants in shaping their ongoing development.
