The Dyatlov Pass incident is an unsolved mystery that occurred in 1959 when nine Soviet hikers died in the Ural Mountains. The hikers, led by Igor Dyatlov, were students and graduates of the Ural Polytechnical Institute (now Ural Federal University). The incident occurred on February 2, 1959 on the east shoulder of Kholat Syakhl, a mountain in the Soviet Union (now Russia) that translates to "Dead Mountain" in Mansi.
