At the May 14 2024 colloquium, Riccardo Di Clemente, Associate Professor in the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University London, discussed the work of his team to explore spatio-temporal mobility patterns within cities. Studying how people move and the timing of their movements helps us identify the effects of urban mobility and interactions on social and economic levels. Professor Di Clemente explores innovative measures of urban interactions dependent on the synchronicity of citizens’ commuting patterns and describes how his team captured the differences in time-mobility habits during the COVID-19 disruption. These findings indicate that various income groups experienced and responded differently to COVID-19 mobility policies. Finally, he presents how citizens from different income groups interact with the urban landscape, connecting their visitation time-patterns with neighborhood topology, and analyzing social income-mixing at different times of the day.
