In 1991, the Philadelphia Phillies signed an undrafted 21 year old named Ricky Bottalico. The right-handed prospect pitcher with a blazing fastball had manager Jim Fregosi, Philly beat writers Paul Hagen and Jayson Stark (among others), and the ever-devoted Phillies fan were all eager to see the up-and-coming Bottalico move up the ranks.

The footage in this clip features a sit-down interview with a 24 y/o Bottalico - donning the classic 90s polo shirt - his proud parents, baseball coach, and former minor league player turned scout Ralph Giansanti.

That same year, on July 29, 1994, Ricky Bo would make his Major League debut, beginning a 12-year career as a dominant reliever in the game - with 116 career saves and a 1996 All-Star nod (my Ricky-signed ‘96 All-Star ball included in the intro : ) Bottalico would go on to play for the NY Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, the Brew Crew in Milwaukee, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
