Drake had claimed that the song's lyrics, which included a line labeling him a "certified pedophile," harmed his reputation and safety. The song was released in May 2024 amid a public feud between the two artists. In her ruling, the judge noted that the lyrics were part of a "heated rap battle" and that a reasonable listener would not interpret them as factual statements. Drake's legal team has now argued that this ruling is "dangerous," asserting that it sets a precedent that rap lyrics cannot be considered statements of fact. Attorney Michael J. Gottlieb stated that many people believed the song's assertions, which he argued could endanger Drake's image. He emphasized that calling someone a "certified pedophile" is an extremely serious accusation. In her earlier ruling, the judge acknowledged the strong language used by both artists during their feud, suggesting that audiences would expect exaggeration rather than factual claims.
