Wiseman Hometown Hero In Baltimore

Danny Wiseman thrilled his ardent local supporters who had turned out en masse to witness his first PBA victory In the $150,000 Fair Lanes Open at Fair Lanes Woodlawn. Baltimore's Wiseman topped Don Moser, San Jose, Calif., 255-201, to earn the $28,000 top prize and an invitation to the Firestone Tournament of Champions.

Wiseman, a four-year pro competing in his first full-time year on the Tour, began his first championship round appearance with six consecutive strikes. He led by 54 pins after six frames before sparing, and a late triple by Moser merely closed the gap while Wiseman cruised home.

The ABC Sports-televised finals began with 13-time PBA champion Pete Weber topping Tony Westlake, Edmond, Okla., 209-182, and then he ousted Robert Lawrence, Austin, Texas, 247-211. Lawrence was seeking his place in the PBA record books in becoming the only player to win his first two titles back-to-back.

Weber, Florissant, Mo., appeared unstoppable, but Moser was equal to his challenge and emerged in the semifinal, 255-234. Moser picked up $14,500 as runner-up and hoped his habit of improving one position annually continues in Fair Lanes Opens.

PLAYOFF RESULTS-Weber defeated Westlake, 209-182; Weber defeated Lawrence, 247-211; Moser defeated Weber, 255-234; and in the championship game, Wiseman defeated Moser, 255-201.
