RTÉ News reports on the death of legendary British-born actress and singer Angela Lansbury. Known for her trademark Transatlantic accent, Lansbury enjoyed a long and successful career in film and television spanning eight decades.

While best known to television audiences for her role as detective Jessica Fletcher in "Murder She Wrote", Lansbury also had success on the big screen appearing in films such as "Samson and Delilah" and "Nanny McPhee", and is also well remembered as the voice of Mrs. Potts in the 1991 Disney animated classic "Beauty and the Beast".

Lansbury also had a close association with Ireland; her mother was the Belfast-born actress Moyna Macgill, while Lansbury lived part-time in County Cork from the 1970s onwards and also became an Irish citizen for a time.

Lansbury continued working well into her 90s and passed away at her home in Los Angeles on 11th October 2022, just five days short of her 97th birthday. At the time of Lansbury's death, she was one of only a few celebrities born before Queen Elizabeth II to have outlived the monarch, with Her Majesty passing away a mere five weeks before Lansbury.
