We listen to customers so we can make better products.
We poll voters to understand their political preferences.
We seek to understand our loved ones to better care for them.

But when it comes to listening to employees…we just shrug…like WTF?!

It is clearly documented and deeply researched at this point that engaged employees are more productive and happy.

The only way you can become a truly high-performing organization is to design better experiences for employees so they can be at their best. here are 3 wuestions you can ask to better engage your people:

1. The Who

Who are your people? Get clear on who they are, not just the skills they have. Getting to know them will better help you meet their needs.

2. The What

What do they want? What’s is getting in their way from doing great work? Getting a sense for what motivates them will help you align their goals with the company's.

3. The Why

Why are they working for you? Why do they come in to work every day? Why do they hate Mondays? Understanding each individual's purpose will help you supercharge your employee experience initiatives.

The best way to engage employees is to make them shareholders and give them some skin in the game. Full stop. But if you can’t make them shareholders directly…

Here are three tips to get them engaged:

1. Find ways to give them ownership over their work. Give them more decision making power
2. Give them the flexibility they've been asking for. The new world of tracking productivity is not based on time spent at the office, but projects completed.
3. Build greater trust with your people using technology. Smart contracts are the new trust system. Trustless trust.

Reimagining work in this way will require an entirely different mindset, but you can do it. You already have everything you need to do important and amazing things so go out and better align with your people and it will pay dividends for years to come.
