In this episode I consider the jobs I intend to do to my CBR900RR project bike before the Spring. I also remove the front fairings to give access to all of the parts I want to work on. I am building this bike to be a road going runner, not a full restoration.

Although it is running very well it does need a service and I do have a few things that I want to do to my Fireblade before I start riding it again in the spring. I am going to go through all of the items on the service schedule, using the workshop manual as a guide.

This isn’t going to be a full restoration, I just intend to make it a tidy bike, in good usable condition. Among the things that I want to improve are: the wiring, there are some previous owner modifications I want to check and improve; the exhaust, I have a stainless set of headers and a standard can from a slightly later Blade; locks, I have three keys at the moment and I want all of the locks to work with one key; stickers; I have two sets of stickers, I intend to use one of them to make the bike look more standard.

Removing the fairings is quite easy. One of the previous owners has replaced most of the standard fasteners with Dzus type stainless ones. Although the fairings have been off a few times and have been repainted in the past there does not seem to be any major damage that has been done to them.

One of the issues I had with the bike is a strange squeaky noise when I am slowing down. When I stripped the top fairing I discovered that there were a few fasteners missing from the inner panels. These moving about may be what I was hearing.
