Home Practice is a self-guided programme of inclusive contemporary dance classes and workshops that introduce a variety of approaches to inclusive dance practice. As the name suggests, all sessions are suitable to practice at home, wherever that may be.

This is a neat contemporary dance class made up of 3 dance exercises that support the dancer to use both direct focus and free flow focus. Lucy Bennett guides a simple improvisation to warm the body up and this is then followed by a fluid spine awakening exercise that is taught in parts that connect. The contemporary dance class finishes with a dance sequence that is fast, articulate and that uses direct focus to support with quick changes of direction.

Lucy Says: “Sometimes I need a swift class when time is precious, because I still need a daily dance! As a performer I love the feeling when the room blurs and your focus is free flow, however I also love to use my direct focus when need to shift direction swiftly. This Home Practice class will remind us of the different ways we focus in contemporary dance”.

Lucy is a small white non-disabled dancer with brown curly mid length hair and light eyes. Lucy wears baggy light blue and white tracksuit bottoms and a purple high neck sleeveless vest.

ABOUT HOME PRACTICE...

Home Practice is not about imitating what happens in the studio during a typical contemporary dance class but aims to support dancers' continued process of learning whilst at home. All content is intended to be inclusive whether you are disabled or non-disabled.

Home Practice highlights the solo experience in a class context, encouraging participants to own their own contemporary dance practice - free of over-critical comparison to others. It aims to build confidence for individual dancers to return to the studio when the time is right.
