Описание к видео An SFU Seniors Program student on her first course—a shoe course with Ivan Sayers

http://www.sfu.ca/seniors

Sue Robinson's first course in SFU's Seniors Program was about shoes: Ivan Sayers, the instructor, a fashion historian, called it Heel-to-Toe and Away We Go: A History of Shoes in the 19th and 20th Centuries.

"My nieces love fancy shoes and that kind of thing, and I thought, 'Oh, this would be such an incredible course to take!"

Sayers brought in several pairs of vintage shoes—from the last four centuries—from his collection as course props.

"I'm part of the Wedgewood family, and...he brought a pair of high heels that had the Wedgewood [name] on the heels from—I can't remember—1850 or something like that. It was very neat," she said.

Sue said that Sayers' courses are what got her enthused about the Seniors Program. She's taken four already.

"Having it be a fun class made me want to come back as well, so then I came back, and I've never left since!" she said with a laugh.

"I'm so excited about this place. I don't think that's ever going to wear off—until I take about 50 classes, maybe. We'll see. Maybe not then either."

SFU's Seniors Program offers over 100 liberal arts courses and events each year to thousands of adults 55+ throughout Metro Vancouver. To find out more, visit http://www.sfu.ca/cs/seniors.
