UK indie Landmark Films, has been commissioned by BBC1 to produce Big Red Bus (WT), an (8×30′) series for primetime.

Delivering in Autumn 2005 for an expected transmission before the end of the year, the observational doc examines what it takes to drive a Big Red Bus through London’s streets, going behind the scenes with one of the capital’s biggest bus operators. The series charts the progress of some of the hundreds of would-be drivers as they are put through their paces.

The programme follows the drivers, the examiners and the engineers who keep the whole show on the road.

Nick O’Dwyer, exec producer and md of Landmark Films said: “This is a really important commission for Landmark Films. We’re thrilled to have our first peaktime series for BBC1, following on from the success of our popular factual series like last year’s 10-part Beauty School for Sky One. I’m old enough to have grown up with On the Buses so it’s great to finally see the real picture.”

The executive producer and writer is Nick O’Dwyer for Landmark Films and the producer is Jennifer Beamish. Big Red Bus is in production for delivery Autumn 2005. The programme was one of the last to be commissioned by Lorraine Heggessey before she left the BBC for TalkbackThames.
