We got off the plane in Dallas, the state of the lone star
Went to the garage where we tried to rent a car
The air it was dusty, real tough to see through
But we made our way to a Cadillac that was painted light blue

I started the ignition with a turning of the keys

We hopped onto the road, my darling turned on some tunes
And we put on our smiles as we sat back and cruised

Now neither of us were any good at reading a map
Road signs were our savior and boy do I mean that
We weren’t really going anywhere, just looking to have fun
So we would drive around til we decided we were done

She had a map of attractions from the United States
She told me where to turn saying, “Honey, this one will be great.”
I saw everything from museums to big ole balls of yarn
And I saw touchdown Jesus. He was stretching out his arms

Now eventually the time time came when we hopped off the road
We took away the memories and stories to be told
And yeah, we were tired and sure could use a bed
But we didn’t mind cause we can sleep when we are dead

Well I sure love a road trip. It dont matter the car
Id go on one wherever no matter far
So I’d like to implore you one second if you please
Someday take a chance and trade your cell phone in for keys
