Here is my previous test with applying a thin layer of bacon grease on specific spots of a race foil. The appiclation made for terrible flight attributes, and the trial was short and decisive.

Also, as you are sanding, check for small burrs, extra sharp spots or extra dull spots. You can double up on maintenance without taking much extra time.
