To me,one of the best all time Big Band arrangements is Groovin Hard composed by Don Menza.I use this chart to start off my club dates since this is what my Big Band is all about.This song was made famous by the Buddy Rich Big Band.I got to see Buddy Rich perform this chart many times with his great Big Band. What I learned the most from Buddy Rich is to find the best charts that will showcase the type of music I will be performing.I always try to find great charts from the past,but most important find some of the great arrangers of today. As a drummer Big Band leader,I get to choose the musicians I want to play with doing the type of arrangements that I perform.
