Research suggests that meaning professional development can lead to teacher and student success. Implementing data-driven, content-specific, long-term professional learning experiences with colleagues can build a transformational learning culture within a program. The Carole Robertson Center for Learning has developed a systematic approach to professional development to support our teaching staff. Our teachers are provided with professional learning communities, coaching, and reflective supervision sessions meant to develop curriculum and instructional capacity. We embed CLASS within our professional learning community (PLC) trainings so that educators enhance instructional skills within the context of literacy and STEM practices. CLASS is also used as our teacher practice assessment tool and is unpacked with teachers in data dialogues to connect to their learnings in PLCs and coaching. The goal of this workshop is to share the experiences of our first year implementing this support system with teachers, and to generate ideas that you can apply within your own setting.
