Air Raid Over Kotka Harbour

Описание к видео Air Raid Over Kotka Harbour

The industrial and port city of Kotka, located near the border of the Moscow Peace Treaty, was one of the most bombed cities in Finland in the Continuation War. Kotka attracted Soviet bombers during the Continuation War also because Kotka was an important military port for the German navy.

After the Germans occupied the Baltic in 1941, the Soviet fleet had to retreat to Leningrad. To prevent its ability to function, the Germans and Finns laid minefields and submarine nets in the Gulf of Finland. Kotka was the Germans' main base for guarding, defending and repairing sea minefields.

The Soviet Navy and Baltic Air Force were activated in the Gulf of Finland against minefields during 1943. As the pressure from the enemy increased, Kotka, which was in the danger zone, was protected in the summer of 1943 With Irja radars and 30 Bf 109 G-2 Messerschmitt fighters bought from Germany.

KarttaKomppania is a group of Finnish enthusiasts who, in cooperation with game developers, decided to create a map of the Karelian Isthmus for the IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles game series.

This channel offers videos and information about the Karelia map project, which has been done for six years by the end of 2024. By then, KarttaKomppania will have completed the landscapes, historical cities and airfields of Finland and the Karelian Isthmus. After that, the map team of 1C Gaming House builds the Soviet cities south of the Gulf of Finland and, in cooperation with the Finns, the big city of Leningrad. The plan is to publish the map in the summer of 2025.

We appreciate it if you want to participate in KarttaKomppania's crowdfunding, because we have made this map six years as a hobby. The work will continue even after the Karelia map is published.
