What is oxygen saturation? The saturation of peripheral oxygen, or SpO2 for short, is the percentage of hemoglobin that’s saturated with oxygen. For most patients, a normal value for SpO2 is 95% or greater. A normal SpO2 usually indicates that the amount of oxygen travelling through the bloodstream to the tissues is enough to meet the needs of the body, while lower values may indicate pulmonary or other oxygenation problems.
