Recently our pastor's daughter turned five years old. We were invited to her birthday and I always like to ask what the child would enjoy. I was told she was really into helping mom cook so to get her cooking stuff. Like, real cooking stuff! Not toy cooking stuff. And that is what we did! I created a gift basket and used some of the Miss. Jones Baking Company mixes and frostings to put together a fun birthday baking gift that literally made the five year old say "Is this for real?"

You may not know this, but, fun fact, I used to own a gift basket business and flower shop in a former life. Making gift baskets is so much fun and can be a very economical way to create a gift that is thoughtful and and says you took the time to create something wonderful for the recipient. You can set your budget and you can shop where you like for the chosen theme!

Since the child has a desire to cook and we want to encourage that in her, getting her the right tools was important. I knew that I would be including some of Mrs. Jones Baking Company mixes in the basket so I wanted to be sure to give her everything I thought she would need to make some yummy treats with those. These are things that I knew she would be happy to call her own.

I started with the mixes. I included a cake mix, a cookie mix a tub of frosting and one of their cake in a cup. Then I built from there. I included a cupcake tin, a square cake tin and a nice size plastic mixing bowl. I wanted to be sure to make the tools colorful and was able to find measuring cups and spoons as well as some spatulas and other kitchen tools in a rainbow of colors. I also included some paper and silicone cupcake liners in rainbow colors. What would a baking basket be without sprinkles? A couple bottles of those went in as well.

I used a bag of kraft paper crinkle shred that I stocked up on after the holidays and wrapped the whole thing up with some non holiday looking cellophane that I also stocked up on after Christmas. Then a nice big bow made from some beautiful glittery mesh ribbon and voila'! A birthday baking gift basket is made and ready to take to a party!

I thought it would be fun to share this with you because sometimes I know it can be hard to come up with gift ideas. The likes of a person can sometimes be the answer to coming up with a theme. Do they love to craft? Get an empty paint can from the hardware store and fill it with basic craft supplies. How about a movie night theme? Get a popcorn bowl and fill it with all the ingredients for a fun night in. Everything from the popcorn and oil to movie snacks and a classic DVD that everyone will love.

A gift basket can be made from virtually anything and it can be as expensive or as budget friendly as your wallet will allow. My mother used to work for a company that gave gift baskets to the ladies every holiday season and those things were monstrous and amazing! Curated by the owner's wife throughout the year with much thought to each person who would receive one.

If you are not crafty, don't worry, you don't have to wrap yours like I did mine. YOu can just pop all those goodies in a giant gift bag and boom, done!
