The company is the market leader in multiple sclerosis drugs and recently launched the first treatments for spinal muscular atrophy and Alzheimer's disease. Current research continues on multiple sclerosis and has expanded to include neuro-immunology, ophthalmology, lupus, and other neuromuscular and movement disorders. Biogen receives royalties and profit share from Roche on MS drug Ocrevus and cancer therapies Rituxan and Gazyva, boosting Biogen's profitability. Biogen's neurology portfolio outside of MS, including Spinraza in SMA, should help diversify revenue and boost sales growth. Biogen competitors include Emergent Biosolutions, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Amgen, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi and Gilead Sciences.
