We have always loved the ungovernable artist. Throughout the times, many cultural icons have shared their warped reality with us: wether its pop-agitator M.I.A or the fuck-all attitude of Iggy Pop. Now, jahanam and DJ Haydn join the chat.

UMAY is proud to announce Trapped By Proxy – a joint EP by Stockholm-based talents jahanam and DJ Haydn. This EP is a heartfelt introspection of their shared love for high-pace music that sits within the walls of filthy, underground clubs. Their aim? Creating a new wave of electronic music that they feel like Stockholm is lacking.

“At times both of us felt trapped in our hometown where the nightlife is dead and no space is given so we are ready to create our own space on our own terms where everybody feels seen” jahanam says.

So, step into the minds of these two Stockholm natives with an EP that’ll send you on an emotional frenzy. Trapped By Proxy is informed by a sequence of calamities, a sort of chaos that’s compounded in a 4-track EP. It’s an homage to the evildoers, a love declaration for the wicked that, well, aren’t really palatable.

For jahanam, recording this EP has been more than just mere creativity – it’s been a journey of self-discovery, a cathartic release. Her partner’s bodily deterioration, her own mental health issues alongside a slew of other barriers, she’s managed to find solace in creating this EP. Throughout the process, jahanam carved out a world in which she created entirely for herself to escape her everyday life.

Although preferred to go by genre-less, the tracks on Trapped By Proxy is a sort of controlled chaos. A blend of modern day techno, a cacophony of breakbeats and fast drums that represents these two artists, without being constricted to one, sole genre. The EP is a journey that has taught jahanam a handful of lessons, one being a sense of artistic direction. More or less, this project is what’ll define jahanam for now and she wants to stay present in her artistry and welcome different paths she hasn't yet explored.
