Environmental Restorer Jamie Davies shares his top tips to plant a healthy tree and what to look out for when choosing a tree – watch the video to find out.

Hi my name is Jamie Davies, I'm an environmental restorer with the City of Melville, and I'll be here to teach you how to plant a tree.

For starters you will need a native plant, suited to the area you're working with. You'll need a trowel to dig a hole to put the plant into and once the plant's in the ground, water it in and so it'll have the best chance to survive.
Planting a tree Step 1 - find a suitable position to put the tree. Step 2 - dig the hole for the tree nice and deep. Step 3 - plant the tree in the ground and cover it up and firmly pat it down. Step 4 - water the tree in.

Useful tips for planting a tree is finding the correct plant for the area you're in so it means the plant has the best chance of survival you can give it.
