In James Gunn’s new Superman movie, we learn that metahumans have existed on Earth for centuries, and among them, Superman—an alien named Kal-El from the dying planet Krypton—is the most powerful. Sent to Earth as a baby, he’s adopted by a farmer couple in Smallville and grows up as Clark Kent. Gaining incredible powers under Earth’s yellow sun, Clark becomes Superman at 27, using his abilities to protect humanity while working as a reporter in Metropolis alongside Lois Lane, who learns his secret.

However, billionaire genius Lex Luthor grows envious, believing that true greatness should come from human intelligence, not alien power. Luthor orchestrates a global conspiracy to turn the world against Superman. He manipulates a war between the nations Borevia and Zarhanpur, knowing Superman will intervene, and frames him for political interference. Luthor forms a team called Planet Watch, including Ultraman—a clone of Superman—and Engineer, enhanced with nanotech. Ultraman defeats Superman twice, forcing him to recover at his Fortress of Solitude.

Luthor steals a Kryptonian message revealing that Superman’s parents wanted him to rule Earth, making the public fear him. He captures Superman and tortures him in a pocket universe powered by Kryptonite, but Superman escapes with the help of Element Man, who rebels against Luthor. With help from Lois, Jimmy Olsen, and Mr. Terrific, Superman exposes Luthor’s corruption and rescues Krypto, his loyal Kryptonian dog.

Luthor unleashes chaos by creating a dimensional crack threatening Metropolis, but Superman and the Justice Gang stop his plan. Superman defeats Ultraman in a final battle and restores his hero status as Luthor is arrested. In the end, Superman recovers in his Fortress, visited by his cousin Supergirl, teasing the next chapter in the DC Universe.
