A song written in the time of COVID-19, in this time of loss for all of us: “Hamakom Y’nachem Etchem—God’s Presence give comfort to you.”
The phrase I have set here is the traditional one said to mourners after the funeral and during the seven-day period of shiva that follows, and is also specifically recited on Friday evening service when we welcome mourners into the Shabbat service. I decided to write this song for my community for our services, as a way of acknowledging the losses we have all suffered in this time, whether or not they be close relatives.
