Qazi Nooruzzaman Sector Commander of bangladesh's liberation war. Colonel Nooruzzaman was made the captain of the sector on September 26, 1971, after sector commander major Nazmul Haque of Sector 7 died in a road accident in India. He was awarded the title of Veer Uttam for his contribution to the liberation war. [3] He did not accept, never used, the title of Hero Uttam, arguing that the main achievement of the liberation war was the people. Kazi Nooruzzaman was born in Jessore district. His father's name is Khan Saheb Kazi Sadarulola and his mother is Ratubunnesa.

Early life
Kazi Nooruzzaman was born on March 24, 1925. His father's name is Khan Saheb Kazi Sadarulola and his mother's name is Ratubunnesa. Kazi Nooruzzaman's studies in Kolkata. He joined the British Indian Navy in 1943 while studying chemistry at St Xavier's College. [4] During World War II, he fought on the coast of Burma and sumatra. In 1946, at the call of Pandit Jawaharlal Neheru, many migrated from the Navy to the Indian Army. Kazi Nooruzzaman is one of them. Kazi Nooruzzaman moved to the Royal Indian Military Academy in Dehradun for training. He received the Commission from this Academy in 1947. After August 15, 1947, When Qazi Nuruzzaman's family decided to come to Pakistan, Nuruzzaman joined the Pakistan Army as a new officer.

Education and Career

He shifted his job to the Royal Indian Army and joined the Royal Indian Military Academy and moved to the Royal Indian Military Academy in Dehradun for training. He received the Commission from this Academy in 1947. After August 15, 1947, When Qazi Nooruzzaman's family decided to come to Pakistan, Nooruzzaman joined the Pakistan Army as a new officer. After completing his artillery course in England in 1949, he was appointed a trainer at the Artillery Centre and School in Nowshera, Pakistan. Next year be the instructor of officer training school. He was promoted to major in 1956 and completed staff college in 1958. In 1958, when Army Chief Ayub Khan imposed martial law in the country, he got into an argument with senior officials. At that time (in 1962), he was sent to the East Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (EPIDC) in The Crush. In the meantime, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He returned to the army after a short time from EpiDC and retired voluntarily. During the Pak-India war in 1965, he returned to the army and returned to civil profession soon after the war.

Cultural activism
From 1962 onwards, he developed relationships with progressive writers and intellectuals in Bangladesh. He was closely associated with the Swadesh Chinta Sanghestablished by Dr. Ahmad Sharif. He was a member of the Writers' Camp and the Democratic Culture Front.

In the 1990s, Colonel Nooruzzaman participated in a movement demanding the trial of war criminals. He served as one of the judges of the Public Court.

Contribution to liberation war
On march 25, 1971, when Pakistani invaders started massacred Bengalis on a black night, Kazi Nooruzzaman left Dhaka and moved to Mymensingh with his family. On March 28, the second East Bengal Regiment reached Mymensingh via Tangail from Jayadevpur and met acting captain Kazi Muhammad Shafiullah. On April 4, 1971, a first and most important meeting of bangladesh army majors and senior rank officers was held at the bungalow of the manager of Teliapara tea garden in Habiganj. He played an important role in that meeting. In May 17, he was appointed president and a board was formed to elect the first batch cadet of the Bangladesh Army. These cadets received the commission on October 9 that year. Kazi Nooruzzaman was replaced by Sector 7 commander Major Nazmul Haque when he died in a road accident in India on September 26. Qazi Nooruzzaman's wife Dr. Sultana Zaman, two daughters - Naela Zaman and Lubna Maryam[5] and a son Nadeem Omar - took shelter in India. Dr. Sultana Zaman built a hospital in Mahdipur sub-sector of Sector 7 with her own efforts. He was helped by Dr. Moazzam. Nadeem Omar, a 15-year-old teenager, fought under Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir, commander of the Lalgola sub-sector.

Honors and Recognition
He was awarded the Title of Veer Uttam for his heroic conduct of war in the liberation war; But Qazi Nooruzzaman did not use it at the end of his name as the mass fighters were not properly evaluated and recognized.

Death
Kazi Nooruzzaman died of old age at Square Hospital in Dhaka at 10:15 am on May 6, 2011.
