The famous Vitthala Temple dates back to the 15th century. It was built during the reign of Devaraya II (1422-1446), one of his rulers of the #Vijayanagara Empire. Some parts of the temple were expanded and improved during the reign of #Krishnadevaraya (1509-1529 AD), the most famous ruler of the Vijayanagara dynasty. He was instrumental in giving the monument its current appearance.

Royal Enclosure

The #royal palace of Hampi was the seat of power of the Vijayanagara kingdom. At its peak, it contained up to 45 buildings, including Durbar halls, platforms, tanks, crypts and temples. The royal enclosure has his three entrances. Two in the north and one in the west.
