Описание к видео Local Plans 5: What happens after the hearing sessions?

Darren McCreery, a Planning Inspector specialising in Local Plans, explains what happens after Local Plan hearing sessions.

After the conclusion of hearing sessions, the Inspector will consider everything that has been said, alongside written comments and submissions, and come to a conclusion on the soundness of the Local Plan. The vast majority of plans will need modifications to make them sound.

The local planning authority and Inspector will come to an agreement on what needs to be changed in a written exchange that is published on the examination webpage, which will then be subject to a public consultation to give other parties their say.

Once finalised, the Inspector will publish a report concluding whether the Local Plan is sound.

Local Plan examinations often take a year to a year and a half - though some will take less or more time than this. There are a number of reasons and causes for delays as examinations involve many people and organisations.

An Inspector could choose to pause an examination to collect more evidence where it is necessary.

The Planning Inspectorate has no power to change the Local Plan once it has been adopted by the local planning authority.

The Planning Inspector is bound by the Planning Inspectorate's values of being open, fair, impartial and customer-focused, as well as being bound by the Civil Service Code, and if you think either of these have been breached then you should report this to the Planning Inspectorate.

Similarly, we welcome any feedback - for example, if you think the examination was well-run even though you disagree with its outcome.

If you believe there has been a significant legal error, you could challenge this in the courts - but please seek professional legal advice for this.
