The American Revolution against British rule began in April 1775 in the towns of Lexington and Concord Massachusetts . The Declaration of Independence was drafted during the Second  Continental Congress in Philadelphia  Thomas Jefferson of  Virginia authored the draft. The Declaration stated the reasons why the Colonists were separating from Britain and were fighting for their independence.

 It was signed by 56 representatives of the thirteen colonies on July 4, 1776. It was read to the public on July 8, 1776.

The Revolutionary War lasted from 1775 to 1783. A turning point in the war took place in 1778 when France became an ally. Their support was critical to victory for the Continental Army. 

The Battle of Yorktown in 1781 was decisive and in September 1783 The Treaty of Paris signified the end of the war and ratified the independence of the 13 American States. 🇨🇵

The Constitution was drafted in 1787 in Philadelphia and the ratification process took place from 1787 - 1790.
