Here's the breakdown

Motion of Center of Mass

1. Introduction to Motion of Center of Mass
Center of Mass: The point in a system where the total mass can be considered to be concentrated.
This section discusses how the center of mass moves when the components of a system, such as balls, are in motion.

2. Velocity of Center of Mass
When multiple objects (e.g., balls) move in different directions, the center of mass of the system also moves.
3. Example: Two Balls in Motion
Consider two balls, each with a mass of 5 kg, separated by a distance of 10 meters. If one ball moves with a velocity of 4 m/s while the other remains at rest, the center of mass will also move.

4. Acceleration of Center of Mass

5. Newton's Second Law for Center of Mass
Newton's Second Law states that the external force acting on a system equals the total mass of the system multiplied by the acceleration of the center of mass:
Internal forces (forces between components of the system) do not affect the motion of the center of mass.

6. Example: Man on a Boat
A man with a mass of 50 kg stands on a boat with the same mass. When the man moves to one end of the boat, the boat moves in the opposite direction to keep the center of mass stationary.
The displacement of the boat can be calculated using the concept of center of mass.

7. Example: Two Magnets
Two magnets attract each other, and their center of mass will remain stationary if no external force acts on the system.
The distance at which they collide can be determined by analyzing the center of mass.

8. Example: Rod Falling
When a rod is disturbed, its center of mass remains at the same horizontal position, even as the rod falls vertically.

9. Conclusion
The motion of the center of mass is influenced only by external forces, while internal forces do not affect its motion.
Understanding these principles is crucial for analyzing systems in mechanics.
