This is a flipped lab that describes the Data Studio Motion Match lab. The lab uses a Pasco motion sensor. Student's kinematic movement will correspond to four pre-drawn graphs. The physical movement allows students to experience positive and negative slopes for distance-time graphs and to relate this movement to their walking speed. The discovery of the zero slope assists in later mathematical word problems involving stationary frames of reference. Students will calculate velocity by analyzing their graph. Students should also record the time and direction of travel. This video takes the place of the teacher's pre-lab discussion. Teachers should create Googledocs quizzes to support all flipped lab videos. Material used for flipped classroom purposes should not be repeated in the classroom if student fail to view the video prior to the actual lab experiment. The "Flipped Classroom" acquires its name from the students taking a quiz at the beginning of the lesson as opposed to at the end of that discovery process.
