Описание к видео FRANCE: MARSEILLE: WORLD CUP SOCCER FAN RIOTS UPDATE (2)

(15 Jun 1998) Natural Sound
There were further violent clashes between English and Tunisian football fans on Monday afternoon, as the two teams battled for World Cup supremacy in Marseille's Stade Velodrome.
Trouble broke out on a nearby beach where giant video screens had been erected to allow ticketless fans to watch the game.
Riot police used tear gas to separate the troublemakers, as the city witnessed its third day of football violence.
Riot police lobbed tear gas onto a Marseille beach on Monday afternoon to break up further clashes between English and Tunisian soccer fans
The two teams were meeting at Marseille's Stade Velodrome in their opening World Cup clash.
It was the second bout of violence in less than three hours, and the latest in a third day of violence involving English fans.
The trouble at Prado beach started when England scored the first goal in the 42nd minute of the first half.
At about the same time, hundreds of drinking troublemakers clashed, briefly but violently, on the beach where a huge screen was transmitting the match.
Riot police threw tear gas to separate the two sides.
According to eye witnesses, about 300 English jumped barricades used by police to hold them back, throwing stones and bottles at about 150 Tunisians.
Police had intervened outside the soccer stadium ahead of the kickoff, when English hooligans threw bottles at Tunisian fans.
It followed street violence on Sunday night that wreaked a trail of destruction through downtown Marseille leaving two people seriously injured - one with a slashed throat.
At the clashes outside the stadium, police were seen beating some of the English fans with sticks before taking them away.
An estimated 10 arrests were made.
Police tried to place security restrictions on Marseille earlier in the day, bringing in reinforcements, putting a partial ban on alcohol and searching and escorting arriving English soccer fans.
But the measures failed to prevent a flare up.
Local officials said police arrested 50 people in Sunday's night's melee that left 37 people injured.
The Interior Ministry blamed Sunday's violence on some 200 drunken English hooligans who taunted Tunisia supporters at Marseille's Old Port area.
A mix of youths from northern Marseille suburbs then joined in the clashes against the English, a ministry statement said.
The prefect of the region, Jean-Paul Proust, said that eight people were being brought before a Marseille court today in an example of the swift justice aimed at curbing World Cup violence.
Proust banned the carryout sale of alcohol in the city starting around the time the game ends, and ordered all bars closed by 11 p-m (local time).
