WHY STUDY HISTORY?

● The history word derived from the Greek language
word Historia which means learn or know by an
inquiry.
● History has a hidden word story

TIMELINES IN HISTORY

● Prehistory - the period when writing had not been
invented.

● Protohistory- the period in which we have written
records.

DATES IN HISTORY

● BC- BEFORE CHRIST
● AD- ANNO DOMINI ( in the year of the lord)
● BCE- BEFORE THE COMMON ERA use instead of
BC.

THE GEOGRAPHICAL FRAMEWORK

● High mountains
● Hot deserts
● Fertile river valleys
● Rivers

WHY DID EARLY HUMAN settle NEAR RIVER
VALLEYS?

● The land near the river was very fertile.
● The river provided sufficient water for all their needs.
● The river serves as a means of transport.

SOURCES OF HISTORY

1. ARCHEOLOGICAL

● Archeological sources are direct evidence.
● They cannot be changed or altered by human beings.
● They are of four types.
