(30 Jan 2020) Protesters gathered on the steps of New Delhi's Jama Masjid mosque on Thursday as part of continued opposition to India's new citizenship law which excludes Muslims.
The demonstrators held up placards with the image of Mahatma Gandhi on the anniversary of the Indian independence leader's death.
Their signs also read slogans, including "Stop hatred, unite India" and "Where is secularism?".
The protesters sang the Indian national anthem outside the Jama Masjid after being prevented them from marching to Gandhi's mausoleum.
The citizenship law approved by India's Parliament on 11 December provides fast-track naturalisation for those fleeing religious persecution from several countries, but not Muslims.
It has brought tens of thousands of people from different faiths and backgrounds together in protest, in part because the law is seen by critics as part of a larger threat to the secular fabric of Indian society.
