China and the Philippines have blamed each other after their vessels collided again near Sabina Shoal in the South China Sea on August 25, 2024, less than a week after a similar face-off in the disputed area. The Chinese coastguard said the Philippine vessel “refused to accept control” and “deliberately collided” with it. But the Philippines has rejected the accusation, saying the Chinese vessels took “aggressive and dangerous” action, including ramming and using water cannons on what it said was a fisheries bureau ship on a “humanitarian mission”. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on August 26, that Manila was responsible for the latest confrontation.
