In summer season, Sitia beaches of golden sand and blue waters fill with sun beds, sun umbrellas, and sun bathers. Restaurants, cafes, and beach bars bustle with university students, local residents, and tourists by day and night..

Yet in the early morning hours, the narrow streets are quiet and empty. This is an ideal time to explore the historic city center and Kazarma Fortress, small but impressive even when closed.
