Hello, I’m Dr. Connie Webster Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Professor in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health at the University of the District of Columbia and your host for Health Matters. Our purpose is to assist you in managing your health care by providing you balanced information and resources to help you make knowledgeable choices about your health.

On this edition of Health Matters our topic is Sjögren’s (“SHOW-grins”) Syndrome. Sjögren’s is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the entire body. Today, as many as four million Americans are living with this disease, and nine out of 10 patients are women.

Joining me to share more on this important topic is Steven Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of the Sjӧgren’s Syndrome Foundation. Since joining the Foundation in 2003, Steve has focused on making Sjögren’s syndrome a household name by increasing awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals. I’m also joined by Asha Lateef a Sjӧgren’s patient.
