In this presentation, "Studying Heschel in a Time of Polarization, Bloodshed, and Warfare: Theological & Ethical Considerations," Rabbi Or Rose explores the life, work, and legacy of Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972). Rabbi Heschel was a gifted scholar and theologian who spent much of the last decade of his life engaged in various dialogical and justice efforts. As we reflect on Heschel’s unique contributions to North American religious and civic life, we will contemplate possible lessons for our fractured world today.

BIOGRAPHY

Rabbi Or Rose is the founding director of the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership of Hebrew College. He is the author of the new biography for young adults, MY LEGS WERE PRAYING: A BIOGRAPHY OF ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHEL (Monkfish, 2025). His previous book is the co-edited volume, WITH THE BEST OF INTENTIONS: INTERRELIGIOUS MISSTEP & MISTAKES (Orbis, 2024).
