Run-by's of my Custom Built Acela Style Split Hybrid K5LA

Here it is, after years of planning, gathering materials and sourcing parts, I have finally built myself the ultimate Acela style, split hybrid K5LA! As some may not know, the Acela power cars came equipped with a hybrid K5LA, however this one is a little different. The approach to attach a monstrous K5LA to these electrified high speed commuter trains was going to be somewhat of a challenge. Due to limited space on the roof, the horn had to be split into two sections. Basically a K3LA and a K-3,5. Together, these horns play what we know as the "hybrid" K5LA. I'm not sure as to how these ended up with a straight 3 bell instead of a 3A, but I really appreciate that difference. To me, it sets the Acela trains apart from anything else in Amtrak's fleet. I remember watching Amtrak's Acela Express videos on YouTube when I was just a kid, amazed at how great those horns sounded. Watching each Acela video gave me more and more inspiration to build this. And now, I'm glad that I have actually built one.

Future modifications I would make would consist of constructing a 2-stage solenoid, as I'm just using my standard Graham White 353 valve (which honestly does the job just fine, but I'm going for authenticity). And another modification I would make is possibly constructing a proper mount, instead of shelving made of particle board. I'm thinking along the lines of a CNC machined baseboard.

In the very beginning of the video, I've attached a photo of the actual Acela hybrid K5 form one of their power cars I found online. The other photos is this very horn you hear in the video, accurately re-creating Acela's signature sound.

Sit back, relax and enjoy these awesome sounds!
Thanks for Watching!
