The world famous Stonington Lobster Trap tree is being built as I type this description. Every year we decorate a few buoys for the tree. Last year I made a gnome that everyone loved, so I decided to make another one this year. Of course I waited until the last minute, but I still managed to video the process and he came out super cute. We ran him over to the tree and got a little video of them building it.

The Stonington Lobster Trap Tree will be on display for 6 weeks beginning November 23, 2024 at 4:30pm. Please come and visit with your family and friends. The art installation will be in place through January 5, 2025 and there is convenient parking in the lot at the Stonington Town Dock.

If you would like to make your own buoy gnome, this is what you will need:

A soft synthetic rope for wrapping the buoy ( I used a #8 polyester braid)
A thicker twisted synthetic rope for the beard ( I used 1/2" nylon)
A buoy
A ball for the nose
A knitted hat
Rope for hanging the buoy. I didn't show this part, but I cut a hole in the hat and threaded the rope through the buoy and hat for hanging.
