Waipio Valley Road Hyperlapse

We took a hike down the Waipio Valley Road on the Big Island of Hawaii. This road has an average grade of 25%, and in some places the grade is as steep as 40%.

Only four wheel drive vehicles are permitted to drive down this road and we did not have a four wheel drive vehicle at the time.

Even if we did have a four wheel drive vehicle, we still would have hiked down the Waipio Valley Road and back. The incredible beauty of the Waipio Valley combined with the sense of accomplishment after climbing back up is indescribable.

We have hiked down this road several times now, but on this particular occasion we shot a hyperlapse of the entire walk down so that you can see the entire hike down the road in about 2 minutes.
