Today I get real and go through the numbers showing why, despite an absurd amount of money coming in, I do not accumulate cash. In fact, it's draining. I will be broke in months even with 2 jobs.
Make no mistake--I'm grateful to be where I'm at after 35 years in the industry, at the end of my career. I'm grateful for success and health and blessings. My story is not unusual for the bay area. I'm NOT complaining, or whining, but really just marveling here at my incompetence.
Here's the math on the perilousness of my position:
Burn rate (bills I must pay every month): $8000
Reserve: $20,000 and falling every paycheck
If I loose my jobs and spend the minimum, then, I'm broke in about 3 months. Better than a lot of households, but still something I think about every day.
