In this episode of The Nachiket Bhatia Show, we have Dr Rohan Krishnan in conversation with Dr. Nachiket Bhatia

Dr Rohan Krishnan is a Delhi-gold-medalist orthopaedic surgeon and King’s College London fellow who now teaches and operates at PGIMSR & ESIC Hospital, New Delhi. As a Chief Patron of FAIMA he spearheads nationwide advocacy for doctors’ and medical students’ rights, drawing on earlier leadership in FORDA and campus unions. He also edits for Medical Dialogues, balancing the OT with policy frontline work.

In this episode, Dr. Rohan Krishna shares how he earned a gold medal in bone surgery after tough training in India, London, and the U.S. He warns that daily attacks on doctors inside Indian hospitals are rising fast. To fight back he runs an Instagram tag system that sends each safety complaint straight to top officials. He tells why he started FIMA, a group that protects doctors’ rights. He also celebrates a court order that finally limits the endless work hours forced on young residents.

Dr. Rohan Krishna also explained that many residents still work 40-hour shifts, putting patients and staff in danger. The two-shift NEET-PG exam upsets 250,000 students and wastes travel money when dates change late. Three exam bodies, NBE, MCC, and NMC, keep passing blame instead of fixing the test. He calls for one fair, single-day exam with clear rules. He adds that last-minute changes hurt poor students the most.

We also discuss:

▪️More suicides among young doctors and the need for quick mental-health help
▪️Ragging and bullying of first-year residents
▪️“Mixopathy” bridge courses that mix Ayurveda with modern medicine
▪️Online fights over who may legally use the title “doctor”
▪️Bureaucrats using new tests to control the profession

Additionally, Dr. Rohan Krishna said the planned National Exit Test (NExT) has no clear plan and could weaken university exams. Some states already reject NExT because there are not enough test centers or staff. Pushing more PG seats without beds, teachers, or machines lowers training quality. Old hospital tools, not doctors, often spark family anger.

Furthermore, he points out that doctors earn less than many high-stress jobs yet face huge risk. He wants a strict national law that jails anyone who harms health workers. He tells students to speak up early when stress feels heavy.

A must-watch for anyone worried about doctor safety, NEET-PG, NExT, and the future of Indian healthcare.
