CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A local breast cancer survivor has a real reason to celebrate.

Katie Marshall is celebrating life this week. She is a young breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed with two types of breast cancer recently.

She is headed for surgery, but this weekend, she celebrated her final chemotherapy treatment by throwing herself a party at the Christ Hospital.

Marshall said her breast cancers were found only after a routine 3d mammogram, and an MRI. She says she has dense breast tissue, so she encourages all women to be sure to have second-level screenings if needed.

She got the whole unit at Christ to dress up and decorate as she is about to have surgery to remove that cancer. It was found at early stages because she started getting mammographies early at age 38.

She wants to become a chemotherapy coach now to help others.

"Breast cancer does not discriminate. I'm on all kinds of support groups and stuff online, and these women are younger and younger. I mean, athletic, they have small children, 2, 3. It was very enlightening to learn all this. [Breast cancer] doesn't care if you're athletic, it doesn't care that you're young," Marshall said.
