German Army (1914-1918)

Germany Army - location unknown, probably be Russia and Ypres, Belgium.

General view of scene at entrance to stables or German army trench. Soldiers lead horses along while others tend to an open fire in foreground.

(Roughly translated, probably means in the Russian area of Chassina, an hour after the evacuation of the Russians.)

General view of desolate landscape, with burning mounds of earth or ruins dotted about, misty scene. Soldiers walk across the area - looks like it was a village that was burned to the ground.

(Troops marching to occupy the captured area.)

German officers watch and salute horse drawn carts go by, carrying soldiers and supplies. Other officers on horseback and infantry follow.

(Celebrations on a street in Ypres?).

A large group of German soldiers stand in street outside building (pub?) and drink beer, raising it in a 'cheers' gesture to the camera and each other. One dangles a bit of ham or meat above his head. All look very jolly and pleased with themselves.

Fades out (end of item)
